Plagiarism Policy

The Journal of Information Technology, Management, Behaviour, and Analytics (JITMBA) is committed to upholding the highest standards of academic integrity and ensuring that all manuscripts submitted for publication are free from plagiarism. We define plagiarism as the use of another author’s work, ideas, or words without proper attribution or permission, and it is considered a serious breach of ethical conduct in scholarly publishing.

1. Plagiarism Detection

All submitted manuscripts are subject to plagiarism detection using specialized software. This process helps to identify any overlap or similarities with previously published works. Manuscripts found to contain plagiarism may be rejected outright or sent back to the authors for revision, depending on the severity of the issue.

2. Types of Plagiarism

JITMBA defines plagiarism to include, but not limited to, the following:

  • Direct Plagiarism: Copying text verbatim from another source without proper citation or quotation marks.
  • Self-Plagiarism: Reusing significant portions of the author’s previously published work without acknowledgment or permission.
  • Mosaic Plagiarism: Paraphrasing someone else’s ideas or text without proper attribution.
  • Accidental Plagiarism: Failing to cite sources or paraphrasing incorrectly, even unintentionally, which still constitutes plagiarism.

3. Consequences of Plagiarism

If plagiarism is detected during the submission process, the following actions may be taken:

  • Minor Overlap (Less than 10%): Authors will be asked to revise and properly attribute the plagiarized content.
  • Moderate Overlap (10%-30%): Authors will be required to revise and resubmit the manuscript with proper citations or rephrasing of the content. Failure to comply may result in rejection.
  • Severe Overlap (More than 30%): The manuscript will be rejected, and the authors may be barred from submitting future manuscripts to the journal.

In cases of confirmed plagiarism after publication, JITMBA reserves the right to retract the article and publish a retraction notice in the journal. Authors involved in such misconduct may be blacklisted from future submissions.

4. Author Responsibilities

Authors must ensure that:

  • Their manuscript is original and properly cites all sources and references.
  • They do not submit the same or similar work to multiple journals.
  • They properly attribute the work of others, including their own previously published work, in all submissions.
  • They ensure all co-authors have agreed to the submission and are aware of the ethical responsibilities related to plagiarism.

5. Reviewer and Editor Responsibilities

  • Reviewers and editors must be vigilant for signs of plagiarism and report any potential issues they encounter during the review process.
  • Editors will investigate any claims of plagiarism, whether during peer review or post-publication, and take appropriate action following the journal’s policy and COPE guidelines.

6. Waiver Requests

Authors who believe that certain overlap in content may be justified due to prior publications (e.g., method reuse, background material) should clearly explain the situation at the time of submission. The editorial team will assess these cases on an individual basis.
